The Bloody Elbow staff has made its own predictions for UFC 234, also it is a clean sweep for Robert Whittaker to shield his middleweight title by beating Kelvin Gastelum, whilst everybody is backing Israel Adesanya over Anderson Silva from the co-main occasion. To put it differently, congrats to Gastelum and Silva in their wins Saturday.

Notice: Predictions are entered throughout the week and gathered the day before the event. Explanations behind every pick are not required and some writers elect not to do so for their own reasons. For example, if Phil Mackenzie entered all of his predictions on Wednesday without incorporating in any explanations, he has no idea if he is going to be the only one siding with one fighter for any given fight.
Robert Whittaker vs. Kelvin Gastelum
Anton Tabuena: Two former welterweights fighting for the middleweight belt. Will this convince people that intense weight reduction really isn’t worth the trade off in performance? Likely not, but this ought to be an entertaining bout either way at least. I think this is going to be even closer than what the chances say, but I believe Whittaker is just marginally better just about everywhere, so he should take this. Robert Whittaker by decision.
Mookie Alexander: Gastelum has an opportunity . He’s got strong hands, insane durability — maybe not Whittaker’s durability is to be scoffed at by any means — and excellent cardio. But he’s not likely to be able to shoot Whittaker down (or at least maintain him ), and Whittaker has far more depth to his attacking striking. His leg kicks specifically can slow Gastelum down, and now I believe he dismisses angles and combines his strike selection and targets more effectively than Kelvin. It’ll be a close battle through the opening few rounds however Whittaker will come on strong at the later rounds and get the win. Robert Whittaker by decision.
